ABOUT THE MCCFA

Hospitality focused, progressive and collaborative, welcoming and interactive…the MCCFA (the Authority) was formed in 2019 and assumed ownership of the Dayton Convention Center on April 1, 2021 with a mission to restore/revitalize the heartbeat of our hospitality community. The Authority is responsible for funding certain capital improvements and services for the Dayton Convention Center that will allow the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) to attract more national and regional events, driving revenue and economic growth back into Montgomery County and the City of Dayton.

The Authority uses a collaborative sales approach with hotel partners, CVB and community stakeholders to attract business segments such as Leisure, Group Tours, Association, Corporate, Government SMERF (Society, Military, Educational, Religious and Fraternal) and Sporting events. The goal: increase demand for lodging, benefiting urban and suburban hotels and, consequently, increasing visitor spending in our local hotels, restaurants, and retail outlets throughout the County.

The MCCFA is a local government agency and operates independently, led by an 11-member Board of Directors.

"Innovation Taking Flight" DCC Renovation Launch

The highly anticipated renovation of the Dayton Convention Center by the MCCFA Board of Directors is now officially underway. The MCCFA hosted a public event on August 16th at the Dayton Convention Center to commemorate the “tapping out" of the metal sculpture that has resided as the Center’s icon since 2005. Special guests gathered to hear remarks from County Commissioners Carolyn Rice and Debbie Lieberman, Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Chris Kershner, and MCCFA Board Chairperson Walter Reynolds. Dan Edwards of Pivotal Media LLC emceed the event.

"There will be a long-term strategic plan to maintain and update the facility for generations to come."

Pam Plageman, Executive Director and CEO for the MCCFA, invited dignitaries and local community leaders to step up to the structure and, with hard hat on and a golden hammer in hand, take a whack to celebrate "out with the old, in with the new." This celebration officially launched Phase 1 of the renovation project, which includes the most prominently visible work planned. The community has been incredibly supportive of the MCCFA as it prepares for the modernization of DCC. There will be a long-term strategic plan to maintain and update the facility for generations to come.

The $35-$40 million first phase included the removal of the iconic metal sculpture that has greeted visitors for the past 15 years. A third-floor sky deck will be installed in its place and future public green space for a full city block will be the new “front door.” The first phase of the multi-phase project is expected to finish mid-2024.

Conventions and Events Business Full Steam Ahead at the Dayton Convention Center in 2022

How is the Dayton convention and event business doing as it rebounds from the pandemic? Officials affiliated with the Montgomery County Convention Facilities Authority, the new owner of the Center, used phrases like “coming back strong,” “there is a positive buzz around the new DCC," and "we are excited to welcome back groups that had to delay or cancel,” after a 14-month shut down.

Construction Update - What A Difference Two Weeks Make!

The design of the Dayton Convention Center transformation is progressing from schematic design to development. The outline for the transformation is taking shape. New material selections are beginning, and budgeting is in full swing. Early work to freshen up the exterior is underway with painting of the façade and, notably, Messer Construction worked diligently to complete the removal of the old rotunda entrance, aka “The Tomato Cage,” in two weeks' time! Roof repairs are being made to get the building watertight. Stay tuned for updates on design progression and the anticipated start of bathroom renovations this winter.

Jacquie is a recognized expert in the hospitality industry and has served for 27 years as the President/CEO of the Dayton/Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

As we continue to evolve and drive economic growth, the pent-up demand and need for accommodations will as well!

New Hotels Emerging in Downtown Dayton

Montgomery County has over 7,000 rooms offering patrons a wide selection of accommodations...with more to come. Two new hotels are set to open in downtown Dayton in the coming months. Hotel Ardent, part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton (managed by First Hospitality Group), is located in the Arts District. AC Hotel by Marriott is located in the Water Street District. Additionally, efforts are underway to bring a Hilton Garden Inn to the historic Dayton Arcade in the future.
